We're always finding any excuse for a celebration here at Affixxius, and today is no exception! We’re celebrating our Motion Graphics Artist, Andy Kiernan’s Affixxiversary, also known as his work anniversary! We’ve had our talented Animator with Affixxius for over a year now, so to honour this we’ve let him take over our super professional blog with a Q&A all about him!
What have you learnt since joining the Affixxius Family?
I've learned to become more involved in the work that I create, the people here really care about what they make, and thats infectious.
Tell us a bit about how you got into motion graphics?
In my old job, I was a technical manager at a live venue and nightclub. The way the acts and DJ's consumed and used media shifted greatly toward video and motion graphics so I had to learn it, I ended up loving it so much, so I ditched the clubs to do it full time!
What does your typical day in the office entail?
There isn't really a typical day, everyday is different. One day I may be making lots of lower thirds for academic or corporate videos, the next I could be working on some more involved 3D designs for clients or I might be creating hand drawn looks for others. It is never dull!
During your year at Affixxius, is there a particular piece of work that you loved working on, or is there something you are really proud of?
I think the project I've liked working on the most is the character animations for TPS. The final look and feel was great, which I'm quite proud of it. Also creating all the graphics for London Stadium has been great, and working with clients like Walkers, LCFC and Sony.
Who and what inspires you in your profession?
I think what inspires me most is the sheer vastness of possibilities for the creation of things, in order to communicate ideas. You can create many variations that communicate the same idea, but you have to choose the best one for the job. If I was to choose a person, It would be someone like Andrew Kramer or Simon Holmedal.
I love all types of music from Agness Obel to ZZ Top, but I am predominantly a big dance music and rock fan.
All animation interests me, but shows like Rick and Morty or Family Guy are my faves.
We play a lot of computer games at lunch time in the Affixxius office, which is your favourite?
My all time favourite is Final Fantasy 7, even though that game ruined my GCSE's
Mac or PC?
I can operate and like using both, but I would say I’m a Mac man… for now.
And finally, as we are all big movie fans at Affixxius, what is your favourite film of all time, and what is your most loved embarrassing movie choice?
My favourite film(s) are Star Wars, any off them! I've watched them hundreds of times and I still get excited today as I did when I first watched as a kid. I personally love Independence Day too, but many disagree.
