With the recent release of our new christmas ad campaign for Secret Sandra, we were able to catch up with the key players on the production crew of this project and got some of their individual perspectives.
Billy King - Assistant Producer
Working to a brief to create a crazy, zany Christmas ad, we were tasked with sourcing the talent and location to fit ‘the look’. Finding the right casting agency to work with was extremely important as we were really looking for characterful artists with unique looks and charisma. Extremely talented make up artists and costume designers further helped to create some very memorable characters. Our location remit was to source an office block straight out of the 80s - which was surprisingly difficult in the modern metropolis of London, our excellent art directors and set designers worked wonders however and really delivered. All in all it was a really fun project to work on and I think that off screen atmosphere can be felt in the final piece.

Secret Sandra was shot on location in London over the course of a single day. Affixxius’s core crew were supplemented by freelance costume designer, art director and make up artists to bring the cast of misfits to life. Secret Sandra will be broadcast on Sky as part of their AdSmart system across Manchester, London and Birmingham throughout the Christmas period.

It can seem that the festive season starts earlier and earlier each year. For the Affixxius team, this was certainly the case! The first week in October our crew were flinging up Christmas Trees, running lights over walls and doors and chucking tinsel all over the place; badly. This was all in aid of our zaniest broadcast advert to date!
Secret Sandra is a great client to work with; they specialise in personalised gifts and seem to be able to print anything on anything. From T-shirts to Marsh-mellows! We were excited to tell this story in a usual way and exaggerate what can be the daunting challenge of buying gifts for that awkward colleague/ family member.
We cast iconic looking talent to deliver great expression and with help from our costume and make-up team were able to create memorable characters within an office environment that time appears to have forgotten.
Our technical department did a fantastic job with the look of the lighting. When we join each character for the first time the lighting fades in with the camera movement; to add to the sense that we have stumbled across each individual accidentally. Dave, our Creative Director set a really nice tone with the way the characters interact within the film. They break the fourth wall to involve the audience and add to the erratic feel in the edit. This is up until Sandra shakes up their day with gifts to remove them from the dreary office pace with excitement and adventure!
We’re fortunate as a company to see the momentum set in Production not just matched, but pushed even further to create a complete campaign in both Post-Production and Distribution. From tracking and special effects, to the styling of the motion graphics - We also have a rather distinguishable voice-over appearance you may well recognise!
This all adds to the impact of the Sky AdSmart Broadcast in the lead up to Christmas Eve: Secret Santa need never be confusing again! Lot’s more happening before the Crew settle down for the holidays; even so, wishing you all an exciting lead up to the Christmas period and a Merry Affixxi-mas!
The production for Secret Santa was based on identifying the perfect markers to engage our audience and creating the scenery to match the concept we had created in collaboration with the client. The promotional video campaign is now available watch on our portfolio.
